2025 creative goals

It’s a short and sweet list of writing goals this year because I’ve gotta be realistic - and yet, it’s just not my nature.

There’s 168 hours in a week, 52 weeks in a year. I like to hope that I’ll sleep for at least 56 hours a week, I work 40 hours a week, and let’s say I need 40 hours a week to commute, do chores, eat, and exercise.

If my math is correct, I’m down to 42 hours a week - six hours a day.

That doesn’t sound too bad until I remember that I’d like to start postgraduate study this year and see family and friends. I’m thinking it’s going to be tight and some things are gonna have to give sometimes.

That said, creative pursuits for the Gregorian year ahead include:

  • send 35 poetry submissions - last year I sent 29

  • write the first 50,000 words for Hinonga Kitenga | Project Perception

  • share the learnings and journey with fortnightly updates

  • volunteer at WORD and attend as many events as I can get to

There’s some definitive (and daunting, if I’m honest) metrics in there, and otherwise some space to just enjoy being creative - learning from others, reflecting on the process, and just doing the thing.

I hope you enjoy coming along.
