Who am I?
I am a writer based in Ōtautahi, Christchurch with whakapapa | heritage from Ngāti Pūkenga, Ngāti Marutūāhu, Te Rarawa, Éire, and Latvija.
I publish my work under the name Atareria and currently have various creative projects on the go while I work full-time and study part-time.
After realising as an adult that you can just do the thing (!!), I decided I would start writing again in 2023 and joined a local writers’ group.
At the time, I had an idea for a novel in mind and I got as far as drafting an opening scene and mapping out a plot before life got a hold of me and I let my notebook gather dust on my desk.
I spent most of 2023 writing poetry instead, and as I gained feedback from people around me, I started submitting my work to local publications.
In June 2024, Tarot published ‘Shielded’ and ‘Look at her now’ in issue 8, followed by ‘Asks’ being included in the Spring 2024 edition of Landfall.
“A story is a letter that the author writes to himself, to tell himself things that he would be unable to discover otherwise.”
